Endings are hard, they’re harder to imagine
Beginnings on the other hand are always in fashion
So we’re always willing to explore a beginning
And pretend they’re not happening if they look like an ending
Beginnings are opportunities filled with promise of more
Of the things that we feel we’re on this earth for
So we look for beginnings because at the start
No one else knows who we are in our hearts
Beginnings are light hearted, the future seems bright
We know how to do this, it all seems so right
Beginnings are for smiles, and potential and hope
We’re willing to take chances, to let out the rope
The thing is you can only begin for so long
Eventually you must sing the bridge in your song
The ground shifts and suddenly it’s a little uneven
And you look around quickly for someone to believe in
You both grab each other because you’re there together
It’s easier when there’s two of you dealing with bad weather
It’s easier when you know that you’re not alone
And you’d rather be together than be on your own
The middle is a struggle, it’s choice after choice
Practice and above all, not listening to the voice
In your head that constantly tells you you can’t
That constant, repetitive, anti-cheerleading chant
In the middle is when we have to expose
Who we really are without any clothes
We’re never as pretty as we’d like to be
And there’s always something we wish we could unsee
Still, you know, after all, when you’ve gotten that far
And someone else knows who you really are
Better than you know, yourself, you feel lost
To think of quitting, after all, the terrain you have crossed
When we see the end coming we often resist
We try to keep it all going, in fact we insist
It isn’t endings we fear, it’s what happens next
Uncertainty always seems so damn complex
Before something ends things are simple enough
For us to get through even when times are rough
So we prolong the ending and stay with the known
Because after things end we will feel all alone
And it’s feeling alone that scares us to death
It’s so frightening we can hardly draw the next breath
We’d rather stick with the hurting and deal with the pain
Than go through an ending and start over again
But all journeys end one way or another
And the travelers disperse, each trying to discover
That feeling that comes with each new beginning
Because suddenly the world is once again spinning
Endings are hard, they’re harder to imagine
Beginnings on the other hand are always in fashion
So we’re always willing to explore a beginning
And pretend they’re not happening if they resemble an ending
