There’s one thing you can be totally sure, will bite you on the ass
It isn’t really all that profound, but neither is it crass
It isn’t what you think it is, that you don’t know what you don’t know
It’s what you are definitely certain of, that simply isn’t so
There’s no reason to worry if you don’t feel you haven’t the faintest clue
That may be the shortest path to knowing what you really want to do
You’ll recognize it by your attitude it’s something you wonder about
And it takes you away to a special place where curiosity trumps all doubt
When you start out you must face the fact that you will probably suck
So you’ll want to be open to the possible to serendipity and luck
Don’t be in a hurry, just do your best but move forward a little each day
Enjoy the process of investigating, if you can treat discovery as play
It’s a well known secret most folks ignore that being successful entails
Endless practice on the basic skills just to get some wind in your sails
And all this practice is taking place while you’re figuring out what you don’t know
While you’re getting a feel for the mechanics of which way the winds really blow
You should be forewarned there will probably be times when you may feel like a flop
There may be other more painful times when you are tempted to stop
But stick with the process and most importantly, don’t let yourself expect
To see anything that you have created be totally free of defects
Stick with yourself and practice each day that which you’ve chosen to do
And one day you will be surprised it may seem like out of the blue
It may be next week or sometime this year, or it may be decades from now
You’ll look up from your work and look around and wipe the dampness from your brow
You’ll realize in a flash that you are one, of a very small select group
In the world who has the chops to do, what it is you have chosen to do
You are confident in what you will allow, and you only play your game
And in that instant you will also know that some things just don’t change
Because there’s still one thing for sure, that can bite you on the ass
