Poetry is a way of asking questions
That cannot be asked with prose
Of looking at thoughts as subtle suggestions
That take you where they want you to go
Of ideas based on gentle impressions
Of knowing because you know
Of answers in search of unasked questions
Of music that can’t be composed
Of the beat that underlies the resonance
Of the silence between the notes
Of the feeling that living gives you access to beauty
Of swimming within the flow
Of a spontaneous overflow of emotion
That can’t be expressed with prose
That’s what poetry is
